Author Visits
At Rushey Mead Primary School we are huge advocates of reading. As a result, we like to invite published authors into school to work with our pupils.
Check out some of the visitors we have been lucky enough to host:
Steve Skidmore
A regular visitor to Rushey Mead! Steve has visited our school four times in the last 3 years, working with a variety of Key Stage 2 classes. Steve is a Leicestershire based author who has published a significant amount of books in his career. His latest projects include Graphic Novels of Shakespeare plays. He has completed work shops with our Year 5 pupils for three years focusing on the books MacBeth or Romeo and Juliet. He is also kind enough to leave us a pile of signed copies every time he visits!
During World Book Day week this year, Steve also worked with Years 4 and 6 looking at his Action Dogs series and Romeo and Juliet!
Onjali Q Rauf
We were lucky enough to welcome Onjali to visit our Year 6 pupils this year! She was incredibly inspirational, sharing her background and how that inspires her writing and moral drive for causes internationally.
Author of The Boy at the Back of the Class, The Lion Above the Door, The Night Bus Hero, The Star Outside My Window and most recently, The Letter with the Golden Stamp, Onjali led a workshop with the Year 6 pupils, writing letters to the Prime Minister on different causes she had spoken to the pupils about. Onjali also brought beautiful stamps for them to use. She took their letters with her to a meeting with the PM the very next day!
Onjali was also kind enough to leave a pile of books and signed every copy of her book we presented her with! She was amazing and we are so g
rateful for her visiting us. Fingers crossed she might return next year!
Rashmi Sirdeshpande
In year 1, we study a beautiful book called Dadaji's Paintbrush and we were lucky enough to be visited by Rashmi, the author of the book. It was a wonderful visit and she was so excited to hear that we had been studying the book all term and not just in preparation for her visit! Year 1 showed her the work that they had already produced and she was very impressed!
